arpungpuli (k) society is a voluntary organization estabhlished with a dream to promote people’s initiative and voluntary action for all round development in different sector for the rural people especially in tribal areas. The organization established in 1985 by a group of young energetic women of North Lakhimpur district, Assam, India, which was registered under S.R act XXI of 1860 with the registration no.2241\89-90.The organization continued its work for the development of handloom and handicraft for around two decades. Almost ninety percent of these weavers entering the occupation show the utter necessity of assuming family responsibilities. Thus handloom and handicraft development is one of the important sectors which play a vital role in the socio-cultural and economic life of the people of Assam.
The organization also took initiatives to work for the development of women empowerment, child welfare, agriculture, community health and education and different awareness program.
The organization is one of the society of the state which produces intrinsic designs on different types of handloom products specially missing tribes of Assam. These traditional designs make a core differences in the competitive market. The organization maintains the quality of the product as for e.g. Silkmark for silk product etc. The modified designs and aesthetic look of the rural handloom products(fabrics) like Sarees, Makhela chaddar, salwar kurta, stawl, shawl, tie, dress materials, home furnishings etc., have a great demand in the local as well as national and international market. The organization also organized different types of design workshop on handloom products.
The organization has established a fly shuttle handloom unit and a production center for jute handicraft at Lakhimpur district. Different types of jute products are produced and marketing of the product is done in the state as well as national level.
The organization took initiatives to form and promote Self Help Group (SHG) among women in the district by giving training and bank linkage for their self reliance. The organization has already formed 20 numbers of SHGs in Lakhimpur block of the district. The organization also implementing a sanitary mart program under the sponsorship of the UNICHEF. The organization also organized different awareness program for health and hygiene and proper sanitation.
Different health check up camps was also organized to improve the health scenario of the district. Awareness campaigns and education training programs were organized in the areas like gender issues, legal aids, atrocities, ownership of access, income generation, safe drinking and sanitation, family welfare, population control, cancer, T.B and other diseases.
The organization also implemented the piggery project among the rural poor women under the sponsorship of World Bank.
